The resort is named after Centoporte Abbey, a place rich in history and charm.
The abbey is closely linked to the Hydruntine monastery of St Nicholas de Casulis, an important centre of Italo-Greek culture, famous for its library, one of the most prestigious in Europe.
Dedicated to the holy martyrs Cosmas and Damian, the abbey owes its name to the large number of windows that characterised its architecture. Although it was never fully completed, from the 7th century onwards it was used as the nucleus of a monastic complex, leaving an indelible mark on the history of the area.
